How to partition a drive

Hello,

What's the best way to partition an 80 gig hard drive?

How many megs should I allot for:

/ (root)
/var
/swap
/home
/usr

and any other partitions (mount points) I've forgotten.

Intended use will be in a small web server.

Thanks

You should look at Markus Welsch suggestions for Debian. You didn't list your distribution, so we've no clue what you're using. Why don't you add it to you control panel by clicking on the user cp button above?

Hello,

I am planning on using Red Hat 9.

Thanks

I think Markus suggestions for setting up and securing a box for a server will apply to any *nix distro. I couldn't give you any more help than that, and saw your post wasn't answered. Since it's Christmas, you might not get a lot of responses, but if you'll go to that site and check it out, I think there are good guidelines. You should know how to setup and secure the box, and how the filesystems work under RedHat, then you can make a better determination for the actual sizes of your partitions.
