How to mount an external Harddrive

I have an external harddrive that I am trying to mount. The external drive is formated to ntfs. And has all my school work on it. BTW I am a newbie to linux so I may need a little bit more help than the average user.

I am running mandrak linux 10.0. The external harddrive is a firestorm usb 2.0 drive. With a western digital 80 drive inside of it.

Thank you to anyone who can help me with this.

plug your hdd in and make a
#dmesg

or look in log for your drive.depending on your chosen usb-slot there should appear a /dev/sda, sdb or similar.
now mount your drive (as root) with this parameter

Agreed - when a reported problem is solved, it would greatly benefit future visitors to the site to be able to see what the solution was. Just commenting that it was fixed does not provide assistance. Thanks -- J.W.
