How to make Ubuntu 6.06 play nice with NVIDIA 7800?

I'm having serious problems with my display and it's giving me a headache. It's blinking and flickering and resizing and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the refresh rate wich is stuck at 60hz (should be at 75). I've been trying to install the driver for my gfx card but without much success.

What I've done so far is download the driver from the NVIDIA site but it wouldn't run at all. So I found this, nvidia-glx_1.0.876+2.6.15.11-3_amd64, and installed it. Then I went to the xorg.conf and typed "sudo nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf", added a # to Load "dri", there wasn't a Load "glcore" so I just moved on to changing the driver to "nvidia", saved and logged out. When it booted back up I got the NVIDIA splash screen before Ubuntu loaded so I'm guessing I did something right but I can't figure out what to do next. I'm assuming I should be seeing some kind of icon that will bring up a settings dialogue (like in Windows) but I can't find it. If there's something else I should be doing I'm completely stumped. Help?

Nevermind, it works now.

I added the resolution with refresh rate to the xorg.conf and changed the horizontal sync and vertical refresh rate. Now that it's not constantly blinking at me I can start loading all my other drivers. Wheeee!
