How to make Linux to recognize Video and Sound cards?
Hi everyone!
I'm having a problem that's really frustrating me in Linux: I can't make my OS to recognize my video and sound cards. I have a Compaq Presario 5150, which is on-board. I contacted Compaq thru it's website more than once to know the specifications on hardware that my machine had when it left the factory, but I got no answer (I'm accustomed w/this disrespectful relationship w/it's customers and for that reason Compaq no more!), so I can't know for sure the versions of my hardware. But, relying on my memory when checking the hardware profile at Windows, I know that my video card is ATI Rage 3D w/4MB and my sound card, considering the drivers that appeared on the volume control, is a ESS Audiodrive, but I also don't know the exact version of it. I use a SuSE 8.0, and by the YaST, I tried to configure both, but even trying by selecting some drivers at the manual selection of them, I wasn't fortunate. So, please, I ask someone to help me on that, because sound (principally it) is really, really, really important to me, 'cause I'm a musician and I depend in my collection of MP3s my training at the violin. Thanks :newbie: |

for the video, try using the vesa driver. u might do a trial and error test for the monitor (use a geric monitor and a lower resolution). sound: try using the drivers at www.opensound.com not very familiry with suse but maybe u can try checking the hw database first: http://cdb.suse.de/index.php?LANG=en_UK |
