how to make gnome detect my sound card


last night I installed linux on my laptop alonside windows (using grub) and have found that the soul purpose for it being on it in the first place has gone out of the window, my sound card doesnt work the laptop is a toshiba satelite 4000cds, windows automatically detects the sound properly but when the cpu gets hot it goes funny so my friend suggested that linux is put on his laptop worked and his is older than mine,

can anyone help

yep. Don't use mandrake on a toshiba. use suse, or redhat since your laptop is old enough to be supported by redhat.
