All I was checking was to make sure what your thought you were running was what you were running.

Lets take a look at your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Where you specify driver:
Quote:
Driver "vesa"
you are using the vesa one. You should be using:
Quote:
Driver "nvidia"

The only other thing I can think of is if you video card goes into the legacy category.

Going back to your first post:
Quote:
FATAL: Could not open '/boot/System.map-2.6.20-1.2316.fc5': No such file or directory
That was what made me think you did not have the kernel installed yet (not rebooted), but uname -r said otherwise. Maybe try: uname -a

If I use locate:

Quote:
[fred@127 ~]$ locate System.map
/boot/System.map-2.6.17-1.2174_FC5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.17-1.2187_FC5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.18-1.2200.fc5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.18-1.2257.fc5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.19-1.2288.2.1.fc5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.19-1.2288.2.4.fc5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.19-1.2288.fc5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.20-1.2300.fc5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.20-1.2307.fc5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.20-1.2312.fc5smp
/boot/System.map-2.6.20-1.2316.fc5smp

So I do not understand what is going on.

Edit: Try doing a locate System.map on your system and lets see what is going on.

This is an odd one. Lets try this: yum install smart-gui

This is a good package manager that also has a check installed feature to look for problems.

Once it is installed, it should be under Applications->System Tools->Smart package manager

First under edit do a "check installed packages". If that comes back clean, hit the magnifying glass icon and search kernel. Find this last kernel, double click on it. Then hit the icon (on top second from left) to do what you told it to. This will remove the kernel. Reboot, restart smart, hit the update button (on top first on the left). Install the kernel (same one you just removed). Reboot. Hopefully whatever got goofed the first time around will be fixed.
