the slot or part that slides into motherboard is usually smaller with AGP and won't fit in a pci slot.

And usually AGP slot is located on the top, where are PCI are underneath it, and of course PCI won't fit into AGP and vise versa. Sometimes coloring theme can easy assist you to identify slots - white are PCI slots and brown is AGP

Also, and I'm a big fan of just cracking the case open, but maybe you're not, so:

/sbin/lspci

Almost all of the AGP cards have "AGP" on their listing.

Take a look at this motherboard (it's just an example)
http://www.aopen.com/products/mb/Pax34-u.htm

If look the expansionslots from the left, then the first one is an isa-slot(the long black one), next to it is four white slots, thats pci-slots, then there is a small
brown one thats a AMR-slot for combined audio/modem cards , then comes
a brown slot approx the same size as the pci-slots, but located a little further
from the edge of the board, thats an AGP-slot.

Pci and agp cards are not interchangeable, they don't fit in the wrong slot,
and they run at different speeds. Pci is 33Mhz and agp is 66 Mhz.

A friend of mine had a machine like yours. I think it was based on Intel 810
chipset with integrated graphics, and was equipped with only two or three
pci-slots.

ps: intel have linuxdrivers for the 810 chipset, but i don't know if they work!

Also, if you swing by this page from my webpage, there is a pic which actually has them labeled. AGP is usually located at the top of the PCI's. If you are lucky you HP will have it, but most likely it won't and it has integrated video.

Also, I just beamed over to HP's website and read up on your PC here and it doesn't look like you have an AGP slot.
