How to hotsync with Clie/IRda/Fedora 2?

I started up the Gnome Pilot and entered the required settings. When prompted to press Hotsync on the Clie, nothing happened.
What should I do to enable my Clie to hotsync with Fedora 2? I searched the web but cannot find an anwer to this question.
Is there a logical path that I can follow (no, I'm not going to install XP again!) to check if things are working alright, for instance check IR port first, then check handshake with Clie, then check datacommunication?

Any help is welome!

BTW Clie hotsync is compatible with Palm PDA.

I have a Palm Zire 21 and what I did to solve my problem was to install jpilot. Then I set jpilot in the preferences under the file menu to look at /dev/ttyUSB1. Everything works. The only problems I have had are with syncing. Some times I have to close and reopen jpilot to get it to sync with my Zire 21. I was never able to get Gnome-Pilot to work. It kept giving me errors when trying to set up the conduits.
