Talking how to enable famebuffer for my video card?

hi, trying to read the README about how to enable, but don't quite understand how to do it...

i'm using matrox g400 viedo card, which has famebuffer ability. but its not showing on my /dev folder.

i like to add famebuffer to my box, so i can see that /dev/fb or /dev/fb0

would anyone please walk me through step by step how to do it? thanks

Compile a new kernel and make sure you add frambuffer support for Matrox cards and the G400 when you configure it. Refer to the document .../Documentation/fb/matroxfb.txt in your kernel source tree.
