how to enable dolby advanced audio v2 in ubuntu 14.04 ? (poor sound quality)

I have an acer aspire laptop. It comes with 'dolby advanced audio v2'. There is a proprietary driver available for windows and sound quality is good but I could not get it to work with ubuntu , even at full volume the sound is considerably low and faint.

Hi...

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that Dolby has released a Linux driver for this particular functionality. Please see here.

Regarding the sound volume, I found this thread, which might be of help. Also, I would encourage you to write to Dolby requesting a Linux driver be developed for this feature. It couldn't hurt.

Regards...

It is hard to believe that on a platform like linux which provides
opensource alternative to nvedia drivers, such a problem could be left
unresolved, but there is not much that can be done. I appreciate your help
ardvark71.

If the hardware makers don't supply info, it's hard to create an open source driver - it's not the fault of Linux. I have a laptop with Beats Audio and I can get it working with some tweaks that were discovered by folks that dug and experimented. Complain to the hardware folks that you'd like Linux drivers, they'll likely ignore you but it never hurts to try...

Hi...

Unfortunately, because of the situation NGIB mentioned above and the fact that quite a few manufacturers do not make Linux drivers (or make versions that are comparable to their Windows counterparts) is why folks have experiences like this with Linux. Linux still does not have that much "market share" or total percentage of users, which I think explains, in part, why this state of affairs still exists.

Again, I would encourage you to write to Dolby and ask them to release information to the Linux community to where an Open Source driver can be produced or release Linux drivers of their own.
