how to edit /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/trip_points ?

Hi, here is my current trip_points file

Quote:
critical (S5): 60 C
passive: 58 C: tc1=4 tc2=3 tsp=60 devices=0x000001001fd939c0
active[0]: 58 C: devices=0x000001001fd07880
im having trouble understanding what this means, and how to edit it.
my bios is set to shutdown if the tempreture of my cpu exceeds 60 degree's
so i am assuming that the first line means shutdown (S5 state), and the other 2 lines mean increace fan speed if the tempreture exceeds 58 degree's

is this correct ?

my sensors output...
Quote:
fan1: 3443 RPM (min = 0 RPM, div = 8)
CPU Temp: +35 C (low = -1 C, high = -1 C) sensor = diode
System Temp: +26 C (low = -1 C, high = -1 C) sensor = thermistor
(and yes, these values are correct, my 2.4Ghz athlon 64 underclocks to 1ghz when idle.)

my cpu tempreture only ever exceeds 55 oC when im playing a high end game like UT2004. but i would like the fan speed to increace at a lower tempreture (for example 55 degree's) 2 degree's seems to be cutting it a little close.

how can i edit the trippoints ???

is there a program that will write to theis trip_point file, or do i have to echo > it myself ?

thanks.

is it specific for your MB that you have
CPU Temp: +35 C (low = -1 C, high = -1 C) sensor = diode
System Temp: +26 C (low = -1 C, high = -1 C) sensor = thermistor

because I have CPU sensor = thermistor?

and strange but it shows
M/B Temp: +38°C (low = +15°C, high = +40°C) sensor = thermistor
CPU Temp: +28°C (low = +15°C, high = +45°C) sensor = thermistor
Temp3: -74°C (low = +15°C, high = +45°C) sensor = diode

which is definitly not normal CPU is much higher temp

and how can I for exmaple log the FREQ to see if it's doing the undercloking( is this done my cpuspeed)?

You almost always need to edit /etc/sensors.conf with lm_sensors.
Different motherboards use different sensors, some use thermistor, some use diodes.

It looks like to me, that lm_sensors is calling your system sensor "CPU" and your CPU sensor "System" you can swap this round in the config file.

As for the frquency thing, I have an Amd64 (which supports somthing called "cool 'n' quiet".. bt linux kernel eems to call it AMD-PowerNow K8 !)

i use a deamon called powernowd to dynamically alter my cpu frequency.

you can read your current cpu status with 'cat /proc/cpuinfo'

yes you're very right about power now and I'm so unhappy about lack of cool 'n' quite with XP (in BG language we call it kotlon not althlon which means stove(oven) haha) I switched that even before your post but the thing is that it should read about 55C not 38C can you help me out with that?

and why I don't have /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/ at all
