how to check processor configuration


hi,,,

i have installed a dell power edge 2850 range server which has dual intel XION processor. but the problem is when i refer dmesg, top, /proc/cpuinfo commands for CPU configuration and usage, it shows me the configuration of four processor. but the server has only 2 processor. can someone tell me what are the other two processor configuration and how to check the CPU usage for each and every processor. and which are my correct processor.

Hi,

Your hardware is probably able to run in hyperthreaded mode (which is also activated in the kernel).

This options makes it possible to have virtual cpu's. In your case (and mine ), you have 2 real cpu's and 2 virtual cpu's. All 4 cpu's are used.

Not all all 4 cpu's run at the max speed, but roughly half the speed (a bit faster).
