How to benchmark a gigabit ethernet card?

I just bought a gigabit ethernet card but I think I'm actually getting slower speeds from it compared to the onboard 100mb NIC.

If I am copying files over a NFS network shared directory, how can I view the speed of such tranfers?

What other benchmarks can I do to test the network card's speed. Thanks for any tips!

http://ltp.sourceforge.net/tooltable.php

scroll down to network and find one suitable for your needs. You may even have it in your distro's repositories.
Check out the other benchmark tools for other parts of linux too...kind of neat.

You could use IOZone too, although it's more for network access file systems.

Good suggestion ironwalker, I see that IOzone is in LTP.
