how do I make my laptop's modem work?

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1805-S203 laptop with an internal 56K modem. I don't know the specs of the modem - but I think it is made by Conexant. When I run RedHat's Internet Config Wizard it doesn't find any modems on the system. I have an ethernet card in the PC Card slot, and successfully configured it with that wizard. That's what I use for most of my internet surfing. I need to get the modem working too. I can't remember what serial port it was on under Windows, unfortunately.

Why doesn't the configurator see the modem?

is a win modem, save yourself some grief, get a pcmcia modem and slide it in right below your ethernet card.

Winmodems aren't that difficult to get working - take a look at www.heby.de for some Lucent drivers (rpms, debs and source), as well as linux.toshiba-dme.co.jp/linux.

Good luck !

If it is a conexant modem you can go to this Website and download the driver for a hsflinmodem, it comes in RPM form. Conexant modems

I downloaded the modem driver for Mandrake 9.1 installed and it was ready to go, you will have to match the modem to your current kernel you are using.
