I've been thinking of getting a new machine and I've been eying a G5. From what I read you'll have to repartition your system and reinstall OSX as well. I don't think there's an equivalent to Partition Magic on the Mac. I was thinking of buying my machine from these guys who will pre-install Yellow Dog for basically nothing:

I haven't tried YDL but I hear it's similiar to RedHat or Suse. I know Gentoo and Debian support PPC but I think Gentoo has G5 support in beta only right now.
I figure if I get the G5 from those guys I can play with YDL until Gentoo or Debian 'catch up' in the next year or so. The reason I'm thinking a G5 is:
a - It's a 64-bit system which is fast as hell!
b- I've been getting into video editing and I-Movie/I-DVD are sweet

FYI, I like Debian and Slackware on x86. I definitely want to try linux on PPC.
Let me know how you make out.
Good luck :)

hey thanks, if you find any more info let me know, dont buy a G5 from YDL, get a refurb on powermax.com much better deal. New g5's should be released any day now so dont jump on anything yet. I will try the partition. Thanks
