How do I install a general USB hub in slackware?

Hello folks... I need some help with my fancy clock/USB hub...

I asked the wife for a USB hub since my mobo is kinda old.. and I don't have front USB.
So, she walked in with this fancy looking cheap gift... it is a digital clock with 4 USB ports... has and alarm and all that crap..

the cool thing is; it has a blue backlight that is allways on when attached to the PC and its a dot matrix negative LCD... so it looks cool... besides is a wife gift; so if i trow it away because it doesn't work (or because is a piece of crap probably) i wont get any "punany" LOL

anyways; this is the output of my system

Code:
weput@weput:~$ su
Password:
root@weput:/home/weput# modprobe usb-ohci
FATAL: Module usb_ohci not found.
root@weput:/home/weput# modprobe uhci
FATAL: Module uhci not found.
root@weput:/home/weput# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ac:1263 Apple, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 04b8:0841 Seiko Epson Corp.
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 058f:9254 Alcor Micro Corp. Hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 413c:3010 Dell Computer Corp. Optical Wheel Mouse
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
So i said... AJA it is detecting the hub and the printer... and everything...
This is the hub
Code:
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 058f:9254 Alcor Micro Corp. Hub
now... I try attaching something to it of course... and this is what i got
Code:
root@weput:/home/weput# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ac:1263 Apple, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 013: ID 2008:2018
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 04b8:0841 Seiko Epson Corp.
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 058f:9254 Alcor Micro Corp. Hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 413c:3010 Dell Computer Corp. Optical Wheel Mouse
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
root@weput:/home/weput#
So.. it is detecting that something is attached to the hub... but it doesn't know what it is....

this one is when a usb key is plugged in the hub...

frankly I have no idea what to do... please help me.

I checked /usr/share/usb.ids and didn't see any vendor listed that's using 2008. Are you sure that the USB key isn't the problem? Have you tried plugging the mouse or the iPod into the hub?

WOW i feel so stupid...

I immediately assumed that i needed to load a module or something...

anyways; mouse is working fine.. .Ipod get recognized with intermittent connection....

tested with another USB drive and seems to be working fine so it seems that the hub is working...

ipod connectivity issue may be related to the fact that this is a crappy 1.1 hub and lack the current to sustain it? (tested in windows and have the same problem....

Thank you for your help ciotog
