how do i get a 3com 3cxm556/xjack working?

I just got a 3com 3cxm556 pcmcia card to substitute for the win modem. do i use kppp to configure it? I tried but i don't know what port to use or even if it is detected. I tried to recompile the kernel but it looks as if this card is not supported. I saw two other 3com cards in the config menu but not this one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks
Charlie

EDIT:
Ok I found the config file for pcmcia and the serial.cs module is there, and I think it is loading. Now, how to get it working??
Charlie
