How do I connect to a Dlink Print server.

I have two printers connected to a dlink print server. it has its own IP (Static). The printers are a HP Photosmart 8150 usb(which I see there is support for) and a Brother MFC 4600 serial(not to worried about this one but would be nice).

My liux box it a laptop that connects wirelessly with no problems to the network. No user/password is needed to use printers from my other machines.

I tried a few things before and messed up my CUPS. I have the HPLIP installed. But honestly I could use a walk thru. I am using Mint Linux (ubuntu variety)

Any help it appreciated.

That print server probably supports LPR printing (most do) so I would suggest setting up the printers as network lpr printers. Should be fairly straight forward. Open your CUPS web interface click on Add printer, and just step through the add Printer wizard..

CUPS web Interface http://localhost:631

The URI you enter into CUPS will look something like this
lpr://192.168.1.2/PS-1123D6-U3
Quote:

lpr://IP_ADDRESS/QUEUE_NAME

IP_ADDRESS: Address of the Print Server
QUEUE_NAME: Name assigned to the port in the print server
See the Setup directions for your Print server for more information..(don't know if this is the one you have, you did not provide a model number..)

You sir are a genius. Worked like a charm for the HP. I will work on the Brother MFC later but your directions were easy to follow. Thank you very much.

I'm amazed you found that easy to follow... I was just trying to provide some general information and give you a shove in the right direction. Apparently it was enough :)

Glad you got it all sussed out.

Well I consider my self tech savy. it only took twice to put the right information in the right box. But it worked great. thanks again.
