How do I add/install new drivers

I have went back to Debian from FC2 and I am trying to add proper drivers for Linux. I am a Newbie and I don't know how to do this. I have done some searching on the web but I am not finding very helpful helpful information. From what I've read so far it looks like I will have to change the kernel, is that right?

Anyway I will continue to search the web, I just thought I'd throw it up here to see if anybody could give me some help.

what hardware specifically are you having trouble with? it may be as simple as a modprobe, or insmod, or it could be as complicated as recompiling a kernel. with more specifics, i.e. what hardware is not functioning properly, maybe we can help you. ;-)

Well from previous use of the Debian version I have.
Problems with: Matrox Mystique 2mb Video card (PCI)
3COM 3c905 10/100 TX Ethernet card, &
Dell # D1025HTX 17" Monitor
Finally: 2nd processor, I have two Pentium II 300mhz but only one is detected.

for the video card and monitor, maybe running your x configuration can solve the problem. i am certain you can find the monitor specs at dells site. here is a generic guide for x configuration

for the network card, i believe you can use the sk98lin module, or have a look here

for multiple processors, i've narrowed a forum search down to around 10 threads that should help. hope this info at least gets you started.
good luck.
