aah yeh, sorry - I forgot to mention one thing - the computer I am doing this with is a Pentium III 731 Mhz with 64MB of ram... running an X system is dodgy at best, do qparted or gparted have command-line modes?
Well, gparted is just a front end to the program called parted. The latter works from the commandline. http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/index.shtml
You can probably install it from a repository.

thanks for that, but i'm having problems:
Code:
root@storm ~ #parted /dev/hdb
GNU Parted 1.8.9
Using /dev/hdb
Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands.
(parted) resize 2 0% 100%
moving data... 98% (time left 00:00)
its just stuck like that :/
edit: never mind - its worked - thanks
