How can I set a newly installed soundcard as the default audio device?

I just installed an Audigy 2 soundcard, and I have it working with XMMS, because I went into the preferences, and manually selected it. I have the GNOME Volume Control set as "Audigy 2 ZS [SB0350] Alsa Mixer", which is what I want, but nothing other than XMMS has any sound. How can I set the Audigy card as default, and disable my onboard AC '97 sound?

Ok, I've solved it. If anyone else has this problem, go into your BIOS, and disable your onboard audio controller. That should automatically set your actual sound card as the default audio device.

If you want to use both sound cards, i've found the compiling the drivers as kernel modules works. Whichever driver you load first becomes the 'default'
