How can I load up a serial console... like hyperterminal?

I have a baystack 350T switch with a serial control interface. I would like to use it through linux... but I just don't know what to do. How do I bring up a terminal on ttyS0?

Could you please elaborate on how to set up cu? I am connecting to a Cisco router. This is a cable from the computer to the console port on the Cisco router. I am running Slackware Linux. I tried minicom, but could not get it to go online. The cable is fine because I can connect and talk by way of hyperterminal from another computer.

Thankyou,

Gary

I think cu is part of the UUCP project's works.

To be honest, it has been so long since I used it that I don't remember.

I would go try it again, but I don't run slackware any more.
