Highpoint rocketraid 133 with mandrake linux 9.2 plz help havnet slept in 3 days

Can someone please help me with the problem I am having. I recently decided to try and switch one last time over to linux on my power box, but this is a lot of trouble right now. Being my power box I have 2 160 mb 8 mb cache maxtor drives attached in a raid 0 via a high point rocketraid 133 controller card. My problem ? I can't install the OS on the array, I have created the array in the rocketraid included bios configuration utility, but when I go into mandrake linux 9.2 the thing shows up as 2 different drives, when I try installing them on one and then try to boot up I get all these weird numbers. The problem is not the card it is me, I just don't know how to install the driver, I know that I hit f1 and go into expert mode, then insert my ext2 formatted cd with the driver ( which took me 6 hours to get ) And choose the file I want, the problem is there are not enough instructions. I have tried to use the red hat included drivers, and I have tried to use the source without compiling it. I have no linux machine to compile it on, however I can use knoppix to put a combiled version onto my floppy. My plea to everyone is that someone help me install this, providing me with a link for dedicated installation, or if there is such a kind soul in this forum to compile it for me, I will be installing with the default options of mandrake linux 9.2 Here is the High Point site with all the drivers :
highpoint-tech.com/USA/brr133.htm
And here is the link to the source code file they give :
highpoint-tech.com/hpt3x...source-v131.tgz
I would be so grateful if someone could help me, kind regards,
micro_sucks

I had to remove the begining of the urls because the stupid thing wont let me post it.
Just add the http:// and the www.

Do you see md in the drive window or do you just see two drives. If you don't, you have to do the hard way. Buy or find a hard drive and then install linux on that drive. Then compile the driver for your controller. Next setup LINUX to load the driver at startup. Test it by making files on it. Then make ramdisk image that includes the driver. Next place the new ramdisk image in your boot directory. Edit your bootloader and run the bootloader for the changes to take effect next time you reboot. Make partitions on the raid array and format them to have the same number of partitions as the hard drive. Format the partitions as the same filesystem as the hard drive. Reboot in knoppix and copy all the files to the raid arrary. Use the preserve and stay within partition arguments.

I don't know why you want raid for LINUX run on because its useless for RAID 0. RAID 1 should be used for LINUX and RAID 0 should be used for data storage.

Why is linux useless for raid 0, doesn't striping make the drive go faster, I am going to colo this machine to use for a personal webserver / counter-strike server. I only see two drives, hda and hde. I should have uploaded this thread, I have another machine now with mandrake linux 9.2 also on it with only one hard drive and working fine, the problem is I am unable to compile the drivers, I do a cd then say make but I get so many errors its not even funny, I think it's because I specified the wrong directory for the source kernel, and when I looked around I can't even find where the source kernel is stored, do you know the path to it in mandrake 9.2 Unfortunately I do not know how to make a ramdisk image. I have also gotten from the /lib/ folder 2 drivers, ataraid.o and hpt.o and tried them both, I insert the mandrake cd hit f1 then do an expert install, it lets me load any 3rd party kernel modules, however neither of these work. I want linux to be installed on the raid array. So if someone could provide me with the path to the source kernel in mandrake 9.2 it would be awesome, or if you want you can compile it for me =) Unfortunately electro your directions seems extremely complicated for a noob like me, I know what a ramdisk is, how to make it is another story. And also why is it useless to run linux on a raid 0 ?

RAID 0 will not give you speed for an OS. An OS is dependent on the accessing time not throughput. Get a Western Digital Raptor drive or a SCSI drive and you will see what I mean. RAID 0 is designed to increase throughput and data capacity, so it will be great for video capture, sound, graphics, and a file server. For an OS you should use RAID 1. 160 gigabyte hard drive is too much for linux. You can get by using 20 gigabyte hard drives for LINUX.

Sorry, I can not help you on how to make a ramdisk because the computer that I'm on blocks The Linux Documentatoin site.

I think the linux kernel source code is located at /usr/lib/linux although Mandrake sets up it as an symbolic link. It should not have any problems.
