Exclamation High RAM usage!

Hello I am running slackware 12 on a laptop Gateway with 2GB ram... But I think I have a little problem with the ram usage! With no open application I have 1514 used 379 free out of total 1893. I don't think this is normal... Notice also that I haven't any swap partition because I think 2GB of RAM for linux are enough... Any idea what's going wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Cyhaxor

--------------

I think I misunderstand that my actual memory usage is in the second line of the free -m output! The first is the cache.. My bad! sry guys

I guess you are new to linux...

"high" memory usage is normal. http://gentoo-wiki.com/FAQ_Linux_Memory_Management

The kernel caches all i/o transactions. This will fill memory up real quick. However the cached data in memory can be cleared out real quick if an application needs it.

The command to see actual memory usage is
Code:
free -m
This will show the memory used for apps (buffer) and the expendable memory used by i/o caching (cache)
