Problem in instlling linux


hi all
I am very new to linux so i think u may help me i have got a problem while installing linux in my desktop with motherboard with Intel 945 chipset and 160GB SATA HDD the setup is not detecting my hdd currently this system is running on win-xpSP2 i want a dule boot system

if u want u can give me suggetion at my email id pankaj_upadhyay29@rediffmail.com

Glad to help if I can. What distro are you trying to install? How? (CD, http, ftp, etc). What errors makes you believe the hard drive is not recognzed?

thanks

actually i am trying to install red hat by cd and it is displaying a msg after some time that the hard drive can't be detacted drive is not present or driver unavialable

Which RedHat?
If it's one of the older ones (like RH7.x, RH8 or RH9), I suggest that you switch to another distro (unless you have very good reasons to stick with it).
If it's RH Enterprise Linux, search LQ or google for redhat sata; one link on LQ is http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ta-hdd-592448/
