Help with my Slackware 9 and PC Partner APBS3-C861 motherboard

I have the PC Partner APBS3-C861 motherboard. It is a socket 370 board with the SMC I/O chip and the Via Apollo chipset (VT82C691). I can't get Slackware 9 to mount the CDROM during installation. I had to install from a different PC and then put the hard disk back to this motherboard. Slackware 9 then runs fine. I'm wondering if Slackware 9 has an issue with this mobo? I suspect the problem is the SMC I/O chip, but I'm not sure. The BIOS is updated to the latest. Can anyone shed light on this?

Slackware 9.0 is ~4 years old... why do you want to install this? If you want slackware, you better try Slackware 10.1
