Question Help with Mandrake 9.1 & HP Laserjet 1000

Complete newbie here, but I'm learning.

I need to get a firmware file for my hp laserjet 100 installed. I've done a search on the web and found instructions that I need to extract the file sihp1000.img from the win installation .exe file and then use the cat command to "install" the firmware driver.

Now my only problem is figuring out how and where to unzip the main executible to extract that 1 file out and then how and where to do the cat command.

I've got the written instructions with the command, but they don't tell me where I go to enter them.

TIA for the help

The EXE driver extraction file is my personal reason for always keeping at least one PC running Windows. Most EXE packages are packaged with a technology called "SFX" - that may help from a search point of view. I don't know what can extract SFX on Linux, but I never looked very hard either.

The cat command would be done at the "terminal", but you need to double check every part of the cat command to make sure you don't overwrite anything important. If in doubt post it here again.

Thanks guys.

That was where I found the info at brianto, just couldn't figure out how or where to do the extraction and installation from.

Once I figured that out, then I had to figure out the guy shouldn't have out the # sign in the instructions as that messed me up also - I kept putting them in as part of the command and it would never work.

Now I've got my printer working and happy as a taco in my homemade hot sauce - LOL.
