Hey, i'm new to this board so i don't know if this has been covered yet.. but anyways here it goes...


Anyways, i got Mandrake 9.1 and it's installed, but i noticed there is no Radeon 8500 LE option in the installation... anyways i just chose Radeon 8500 as my video card.


When i went to start my computer, the internet works, and everything, but there is an error starting the xserver... ther error is:

(EE)Radeon(0): No valid mode found for this DFP/LCD
(EE)Screen(s) found, but non have a usable configuration


ok, so now i try and get the ati radeon 8500 le update from ati.com for linux whjich is a rpm file but i don't even know what to do next.
my friend was helping me, and he eventold me to get two rpms (one being the driver, and anoother being something else).. and typing rpm -Ivh --nodeps *.rpm

but it says both files can't talk to each other or something


So i am lost now, i have NO idea what to do, i really want to get the gnome or KDE to work

You're going to have to elaborate on this one a little man, its the important part, what's the exact error?
