Hi guys, I can still access all my files that are on my windows vista home premium partition (legit copy) ... but I can't get it to boot!!! I tried booting directly from the boot menu, but it just won't start. My recovery disc is no good either!!
I was messing with paragon partition manager, I just tried to resize my linux partition from 3gigs to 10gigs so I could put ubuntu (what I am using now) on there, with plenty of space. I also think I unmounted and remounted (or vice versa) the HP Drive. I was messing with GPARTED but I don't think I made any critical changes. Please give me some info guys, or a good source.. !!!
Guys, if I just install Linux, and let it use the whole disk, will I get my 400gigs back? Then I'll still be able to download and install Windows right?

gparted uses ntfsresize under the covers (as you can see from the messages). It will not resize a (NTFS) partition that has errors or inconsistencies. You have to get Windoze to run chkdsk over it to correct the errors. Of course that requires being able to boot Windows of some sort ...
I would try taking the disk out and sticking it in another machine and chkdsk it from there.
You could save all your data, and blow everything away and re-install (Linux), but I don't know how you expect to

M$oft are usually pretty anal about licensed software.
BTW, I've never had any problems with gparted, and I do this sort of thing fairly often. Never used paragon; never likely to.
Hey guys, I just installed linux (ubuntu)... I have 400 gig assigned to it (MY WHOLE HDD) ... I think I reformatted my hd, and now I have this new situation...I tried to install XP but it did a reformat and then failed I believe... I never got to install it properly... I have a serial...
The above implies that you are in the process of installing Linux using the whole disk. So what do you want to do next?
Please let us catch up with you before you go off in any other directions.....
Sorry to make it so hard to follow, I'm explaining it in chronological order if you can believe that! Now I have fully installed, and it's running fine.
I need to put windows back onto my computer, I can't live without it.
Could someone just help me use the gnome partition editor? I'm installing THAT now... so I can create a new partition for windows. I know it needs to be NTFS ... for vista
Does WinRar run on ubuntu? Or will I have to install vmware and run XP before I can do anything? Will any program for linux (or any process) allow me to extract rar files? (or zips) .... ?
I just do not want to screw up the partitioning again.
I need to create another partition with like 200gigs freed up for windows
(NOTE TO SELF: DONT MESS AROUND WITH PARTITIONING WHILE STONED)
I'm a stoner too man-cranking the Korn-"Lies", burning down a bong hit-and burning up the PC!
Viva la' 420 ese'
OK-you gotta install windows first, then Linux bro.
You see, Windows is like a crackhead-it wants the whole HD and hates Linux. It doesn't even wanna give Linux a hit off the 'ol pipe!
Now, Linux is more stoner like-it doesn't mind Windows and don't mind sharin' dig?
Now, just be groovy and install Windows 1st-then when installing Ubuntu like choose the option where the GUI says it will share the HD with windows-usually the first option-cool?
Wow, then after installing reboot into Good Waves bro!
Remember, after installing Windows-do a defrag, reboot, and then reboot into the Ubuntu CD-ok?
Wait-I'm gonna take a hit and think this over...
OK-just install Windows 1st and roll with Ubuntu after-
If I'm mistaken blame the Appalachian Gold-it's heady dog...
No doubt, seriously.
I fried my XP playing with Unetbootin 3 months ago-Damn it!
No recovery cd/install cd for Windows XP 'cause the PC came as-is for $20
Anyway-after installing windows/Ubuntu-go download Glest the game-for Windows-crank up some Slayer, crank up the TokeMaster and lead your armies to victory!
Glest is the only reason I want XP back.
