help w/ either compiling printer drivers on ppc or force using i386 version

hello all,
i have a ppc g4 laptop, running ubuntu 8.10. my printer is a canon mp190, my os recognizes it but only has support for the 180 which does not have a scanner. i found the driver for linux on canon-europe and it comes with two .debs, one main and one common libs. also one tar with source, seemingly only for the common libraries. unfortunately no instructions. i have put the tar with printer files here, sorry it is a bit biggish - 7.6MB... the scanner is separate but i will work with one at a time any ideas how to use this with my architecture? i did try dpkg --force-architecture and it worked but when i try to print i get errors and no printing. the cups debugging file is here

I know for sure that there is no driver for X86_64 version for Canon printers, only for i386. Or at least I failed to find one, and all the sites I found are telling me that. If I find a way (I am trying to set MF4140), I will report it here, so maybe it helps you too.
