Help troubleshooting ICH6M and poor drive performance
Howdy,
I have a notebook which uses the Intel 915GM chipset and which I am getting very poor performance (23min to restore a 700MB image) on the HDD when using Novell's ZEN7.0 Imaging. The manufacturer informed me that the HDD is connected to the PATA interface not SATA. The ZEN7 Imaging Linux uses a SUSE 9 kernel (2.6.5-7.244-default) which includes ata_piix V1.04 and libata V1.12. HWInfo doesn't translate the PCI Device ID to something meaningful, but it does indicate that ata_piix is active. The PCI Device ID for the ICH6M is 2653 and naturally the vendor ID is 8086. I'd post info from 'lspci' but I can't get V4.02 of Knoppix to load on the affected system - it enters a continual loop with a series of IDE errors. I'm going to have a go at getting info from 'dmesg' and will post more shortly... Lines of interest from dmesg... cdrom: hdd: mrw address space DMA selected Unable to load NLS character set BIOS EDD facility v0.16 2004 June 25, 1 device found iamt: no version for "strut_module" found: kernel tainted iamt: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag Rgds, Tim |
'hwinfo --storage-ctrl' shows that 2 modules are required by the 2653 device; 'ahci' and 'ata_piix'
Should it be using 2 modules?? |
