I have succeeded on 2.4 kernel, but on 2.6 not!
my kernel version is 2.6.0-test9; I have download the patch from minion.de
My installation steps are as following:

download patch for 2.6
./NVIDIA*.run --extract-only
cd NVIDIA/usr/src/nv
cp patch here and patch nvidia driver
make install

edit XFree86, delete "load dri" and replace "nv" with "nvidia"
startx
(failed! it says "cannot load nvidia: no such module")

and then I tried again:
download NVIDIA_GLX*
tar and make install
startx again
now the screen shows terrible mess chars and then system halted!
