Help needed!! Kernel panic problem after upgrading RAM
I am relatively new to linux. I had installed Redhat 8.0 on my dual boot PC. Everything worked fine until I upgraded my RAM from 128 to 256 MB.
I have not been able to start Redhat 8.0 since then. My Win98 boots fine and shows the new memory. But Redhat stalls with a Kernel Panic Error saying VFS unable to mount root Please help!!! Thanks, Nilesh |
Are you using GRUB or LILO?
|
Actually, neither. I had Win98 installed previously on my m/c and did not want to modify the MBR.
So, I am using 'loadlin' to load the linux kernel. |
Problem solved.
I had to change the root=/dev/hda5 to root=/dev/hdc5 on the loadlin command line. Also, after booting I had to change the swap partition in /etc/fstab from /dev/hda6 to /dev/hdc6. Thanks for your help. Nilesh |
