Help monitor trouble

Ok i am a COMPLETE newbie to linux, just got done installin RH 9.0 and towards the end of the install it asked what monitor and videocard and all that, well my video card wasnt in there so i put Geforce FX, which i have Geforce FX 5700 LE, and for my monitor it also wasnt in there, so i put generic 1280X1024 60HZ which that's the highest my monitor can run, and well now when i boot up linux i have no clue what crap is because it's blurry, like my frequency is to high, i can make out boxes and where my mouse is but that's about it i can't read anything, because everything is all to distorted, so im wondering it'd just be easier to reinstall llinux and give it a new monitor, or just do what im told to do here, if you have me change files in text mofe or something i'll need help with telling me EXACTLLY what to do because i dunno the text commands, Thank You

Sounds like the problem is determining which setting, the video card or the monitor settings is wrong. You might try changing the video card setting to vesa, which is a generic setting that works with nearly all cards. Then work on correcting the monitor selection.

If you get things working, downloading an installer from the nvidia website would give you the most current accelerated driver.
