hello =D


just joined the forum..... just installed slackware 8.1 last night on my compaq presario 700z laptop and i got everything to work ok but i have no sound....
also i hear that to copy you use the middle mouce button? i dont have one =[ any suggestions?

any help will be very appreciated
also i am a super n00b so you have to explain things in depth
thanx in advance =D

also sound card is called "Sound Max Integrated Sound"

for sound i guess you have to search for a driver on the internet.

if you dont have a middle mouse button you can press the other two buttons together, it will act as the middle button and you can copy

Hello and welcome!

I have slack 9 on a compaq 723 laptop btw.

For sound check the premissions on /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer if I am not mistaken; regular users should have acces to both of them (if you want them to have sound that is)

Press the two buttons at the same time to get that pasting done :-)

well.... pressing both mouse buttins doesnt work but thats not too important right now....
as a user the permissions for mixer and dsp are crw-rw----
but i dont even know if the drivers are installed properly....im looking for documentation online about installations as well as asking here

Mouse: are you running gpm? That allows copying and pasting at the console.

So the user has rw premission? Who's the owner of that file?
I hope you get the drivers installed.

ok ive found drivers but in order to install them i need to copy like 40 lines into conf files and i dont like the idea of typing it all out so any ideas on the copy paste thing will be much appreciated
