Having some problems with SANE in OOo / KOffice

I've installed SANE on a Mandriva computer and scanner front-ends like Xsane, Kooka, etc. work just fine, and GIMP can use them. When I try to use the scanning functions in OpenOffice.org, it doesn't find the scanner, and KOffice says SANE isn't installed (doesn't KOffice use Kooka, which works?).

KOffice is not important, but it would be good if I could get it working in OpenOffice.org. Do I have to change anything in the configuration of SANE or OOo before I can use it?

OpenOffice.org Version 2.0.3
KOffice Version 1.5.91
Kooka (KDE) Version 3.5.4
SANE Version 1.0.18
Scanner: Epson Perfection 1240

TIA
