Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Has anyone successfully connected a Canon USB scanner to Linux?

I have searched Linux forums and the web in general, and conclude, surprisingly, that the nice folks at Canon have decided not to play nicely with the Linux community.

If this remains true, then I'll have to continue my dual-boot (XP/Fedora11) environment, or explore virtualization.

I welcome hearing from anyone who can provide guidance on working with Canon USB scanners, particularly the 4200F.

Thank you.

I have a Canon Pixma MP160 that is an all-in-one. The only problem I ever had was printing with it back in 2007. I used Gimp + Sane. I just looked on SANE's page and that is one of the scanners not supported. To be fair, this is Canon's fault and not the OS though. Canon is famous for not supporting Linux.
