hello everyone!
I have a linux pdc with 3 SCSI drives set at raid 5. i would like to add 3 additional drives to increase the amount of space i have for my users.
How do i do this without deleting any of my previous data?
Most of the topics i've read requires to unmount, format, and re-mount the drive. I don't want to do this since i would like to keep all of my data intact.
what kind of raid is this? please give us more information. if it's through md, you can just use raidhotadd or mdadm to increase the size of a raid 5 array.
RAID level 5 is fixed so you have to backup the data, delete the array, make an array with new hard drives, make partition, format partition, and then put the data back on the array. You still have to remake the array to add new drives when using software or hardware RAID. There is LVM and EVMS that can expand capacity when needed.

I have seen the option of adding drives to a raid 5 array in the card bios. While I try to rebuild OS partitions that I adding drives to I've added drives to data stores more then once. One of the nice things of raid 5 is that you can expand it.
If it supported by your hardware, you add the drives to the array and they become part of it. In Windoz this then looks like another unpartitioned "drive" that you can format or use somthing like partition magic to rezize and include the new space/drive. In linux well...I'm sure you at the right place. I'm just not the guy to help you just yet.
