Question Hardware raid 0 with Fedora


My hardware:
ASUS P4C800 deluxe (includes Promise PDC20378 FastTrak chipset)
P4 2.4
2 x 512 MB
2 Maxtor 80 GB SATA
1 IBM 30 GB EIDE
My configuration:
FEEDORA core 1 - kernel 2.4.22.

Two disks are in hardware raid 0 FAT32 formatted, the ide IBM one on the primary master is EXT3 formatted.

I'm not able to mount the hardware raid.(Actually I'm a newbie).

Stock 2.4.22 doesn't have support for hardware under the PDC203xx series. Heck, it can't even see it as a normal ATA controller let alone the hardware Raid aspect.

I just looked in the menuconfig of 2.4.25 and it doesn't seem to be there at all either. Hmm, Neither does 2.6.3, but there's source code on the promise site... unfortunately Promise strictly uses model names instead of their own chipset names, so to find the right one you're going to have to know the exact silly name they use for the PDC20378, like Fastrack SATA 1500s and so forth... Also there seem to be some precompiled modules available at different board manufacturers sites, but nothing I've seen so far for FC-1, and this is a kernel module so the ones for RH9 are NOT going to cut it.

Is the RAID array created by Windows XP or by the controller's BIOS. If its created in the OS. You will have a hard time mounting it in LINUX. If it is created in the BIOS. Its a little easy. You have to dig deeper in linux. Look for something that says /dev/mdr, /dev/rd, or something similar. I'm not sure because I have not yet use RAID in LINUX. Display it here on what you found but do not mount it yet. You do not want to lose your data by mounting an incorrect device that is part of the RAID array.

BTW, are you sure your processor is a 2.4 GHz because LINUX detected as 2.6 GHz processor.

finegan, Promise controllers are not hardware RAID. They are software RAID.
