Hardware diagnostic software for Linux?
 

Does anyone know of a Linux program I can use to diagnose and troubleshoot hardware failures in a motherboard?

Not to say it doesn't exist, but I never heard of one taken seriously.The trouble is, if a pc is running linux then the m/b is probably reasonably good. Blown silicon is notoriously difficult to predict. Just watch where the messages stop at boot up, and if they don't start, don't waste time.

I had a young kid nab my cdrw once, and return it later and try the box. He _then_ noticed the lead disconnected, plugged it in (with the box booting) and blew the drive and the Southbridge.
It wouldn't boot of course. POST said "Going away now to check the disks," and never came back. When even Tomsrtbt, a floppy distro, was giving me Southbridge complaints, it's time to buy.
