Hardware Acceleration

I just installed Mandrake 9.1. It has a game called "Chromium" on it. The game runs really slow. So I go look at the games FAQs and it says I must be running Open GL under the software instead of my graphics card. I have a NVIDIA nForce motherboard with built in graphics. The "NVIDIA GLX + XFree 4" link doesn't work on the faq page. How do I get it to work?

You need to download NVidia Linux driver from nvidia.com.

I did. I try to install the "NVIDIA_kernel" and it says everything is already installed.

Then I try the GLX package. It comes up with a message saying that the signature of the GLX is not correct. So I tell it to install anyway and it comes up with a message saying that there were conflicts with the nvidia kernel.

When I was trying to install the kernal and glx it suggested changing an attribut in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. I think it was the graphics kernel that it would load. It was "nv" and I changed it to "nvidia". Now my xserver graphics thing won't load. I tried changing it back to "nv" through the command prompt but it didn't work.

Question

How did you install your driver? What was the name of the driver? Basically, did it end in '.run'?

It sounds like your install did not work.

:D :D

It was a rmp file. I just double clicked at first. Then I tried running it from the command line like the readme said....

did you do this step by step

dalek 09-01-2003 11:43 AM

Try this

Go here and download the driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-4496.html

This should be the right one. It's pretty good size if you are on a dial-up.

When you get through with that go here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ticle&artid=30

You may need to make more changes than in the link above but that will help much.

Post back when you get that done.

Not so fast snappy

You need to goto Mandrake Control Center and check for errors. Reboot first. Go here Control Center, like start in windoze, then Configuration/Mandrake Control Center.
When that comes up click 'System' Then 'Logdrake'. Put a x above the calender. That way it will only show todays error. Put fail in the 'matching' box. Put a x for messages, syslog and usr then click search.
Look for errors especially agpgart. If you see something that looks wrong post it here. We'll see if it needs fixing.

I had a error for a long time and didn't know it. It caused some problems that I couldn't figure out till I lucked up on that. Random stuff. Really bad. Crashes 'x'.

You're 99% there. :D

How the how to do? I'm rewriting it but just curious.

:D :D :D

The How To was quite good! Very easy to use. The only thing I had problems with was that I had know clue how to use vi or emacs. I couldn't find good documentation for vi, and I just barely found out how to save and exit emacs. You might add something on how to use those editors. Or link to another article.

I will check the errors log soon.

dalek 09-02-2003 10:08 AM

Yep

vi is pretty tough when you don't know how to use it. I had a book and it took me a while.

Has to adding a link, I don't think I can change it. I did warn you though.

:D :D :D :D
