First--the word is "partition"--commonly used as either a verb or a noun.

How many drives do you have and what capacities? (You start by saying hard drive--and finish by saying 2 hds for Windows....)

Once we know the details of your hardware, we can be more helpful.

sorry. new at this.
It is one hard drive at 250gb now split with 125gb for suse and 100gb for windows. and the rest is backup.

I just wanted to know if some of the 125gb for suse could be moved back over to the windows some how. can I make a partition in suse keep 50gb and move the 75gb partition to windows?

Moving around and re-sizing with an installed system is tricky--I'll leave that to someone else.

I would allocate that drive like this:

Windows: ~6GB NTFS
Linux: ~6GB Ext_ or Reiser (including swap space)
DATA: ~ 100Gbyte FAT32
Leave the rest unallocated, or backup--whatever.

In this way, the data partition can easily be accessed by both Windows and Linux

FAT32 partitions can be successfully accessed (both Read and Write) from Windows as well as Linux, and thus it is an ideal choice for creating a shared/common partition.

That being said though, if you've got 100G allocated to Windows and 125G allocated to Linux, that's a huge, err, very generous amount being given to both - usually resizing questions involve situations where, say, a 20G drive that was originally split as 12G for Windows and 8G for Linux now is desired to become an even 50:50 split. I guess my point is - Is it possible that you are carrying around a lot of data in both systems? If you're dealing with large numbers of huge files nevermind, but if you are handling moderate sized files and happen to have a lot of unneeded data laying around, you could avoid the risk of resizing by deleting anything you no longer need

I bought this computer a few months ago and I came with a 250gb hard drive. I have used about 30gb for windows. but windows programes generaly take up more space, I may be woried for no reason, I still may never use all that space. But never the less... a FAT32 sounds good to me, If I understand correctly I can download a mp3 file for example, from either linux or windows and access the same file and play it in both o.s.? should this FAT32 file be made in windows or linux? cause I want to do that with the space that is in linux

I think you can create a FAT32 partition from either OS. Easier from Linux

Yes, you can have data files (any kind) that are accessed, played, etc. from either OS

Windows XP will recognize FAT32 partitions just fine

Windows does you thinking for you---Linux makes you think for yourself. Only you can know which will give the best results....
Windows automatically mounts every last partition that it finds---except of course the weird linux ones.....
