Post Hard Drive / Partitions

Just wondering if somebody could explain this to me;
My "D:" drive is referred to as hda5 when really its the 2nd partition on my first hdd, so shouldn't it be hda2? :/ (Windows is installed on hda1 (C: ), all my windows programs/other files etc. on 'hda5' (D: ))... linux is installed on a second hard-drive with three partitions (Linux, swap, home dir).

Also: is there any way to change the size of the swap partition without losing everything on the drive? :/

Thanks

1 2 3 and 4 are for 'primary' and 'extended partitions'. 5 onwards are for 'logical' partitions residing in the 'extended' partitions.

in your case, /dev/hda5 is a logical partition.

non-destructive resizing is the term for that. look for parted howtos in www.google.com/linux
