hard drive mounting error??

Mounting HDB1:

During the slackware installation, my second hard drive was unplugged. It didnt get autodetected, and or setup. I tried mounting it using the following command "mount -t vfat /dev/hdb1 /winhd" I get the following error:

mount: /dev/hdb1: unknown device

In my /dev folder there is a "hdb1" file. (by the way, i'm trying to mount my second hard drive, first partition. Its set up as master on the second IDE slot)

Do i need to reconfigure/ remake the "hdb1"?? or what could the problem be.

One last thing that might be noteworthy... I'm running Slackware v.8.1 off the third partition of my first harddrive (hda3). hda2 is my swap partition, and hda1 is windows 2k, which gets mounted automatically in fstab (i believe) on reboot.

If you can help, please drop a line asap. I'd love to get my second hd working w/linux.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
