Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Graphics problem solved by installing chrome

Hi guys I'm running Fedora 20 (gnome 3) on Lenovo G505s, i.e,

-- 512 MB AMD Radeon HD 8550G (Integrated) and 2 GB ATI Sunpro HD 8570 Graphics (Dedicated)
-- AMD A8 quad core + 8GB ram + 1TB HDD

Recently, ignoring the warnings that gnome 3 is laggy with both radeon opensource and catalyst drivers, i installed fedora.
At first, the graphics performance was really poor, but after removing firefox and installing google chrome unstable, the problem was automatically solved.
Why and how did this happen? Can someone with similar hardware confirm this?
