Graphics don't work at all

I'm trying to install OpenSuse on my new desktop, but as soon as the linux kernel loads to start the installation, the graphics, which were fine up to that point, turn into a solid green flashing screen that never goes away.

I'm using an AMD Radeon HD6870 graphics card. Is there any way to tell the linux kernel to load something different, so I can at least finish the installation and install a working driver?

Edited to add: I'm trying to install 64bit openSUSE.

OK, so I've tried several of my live CDs. My GParted live CD (running Debian) runs perfectly fine. As does my Ubuntu 64bit liveCD. But when I run any of my OpenSUSE 12.2 CDs, I see the "Welcome" screen, then the screen that allows me to select some options pops up. I've tried different combinations of options (No ACPI, Driver Yes, Driver No) all to the same effect. I select "Installation" and hit enter. I then get a brief glimpse of the chameleon loading bar, and then a blank, flashing green screen.

If you have the possibility to manually add kernel options at the DVDs bootloader screen try to add the option

video=vesafb:1024x768@60

This shouold tell the install-system to use the generic VESA framebuffer driver instead of the card-specific driver. Of course you can try it with different resolutions, if needed.
