Graphics card choas

Ok so now i will post this here since i got it narrowed down to the graphics card.

ok well i have a new comp i just installed mandriva 2007 on.. it wouldnt boot just through some errors at me. I took my geforce fx 5500 out and it then booted but i really need to run that card so i put it back in disabled my onboard vid card(1st time i did this) and reinstalled mandriva.. i should note post install config does not find my geforce fx 5500 this time i tryed to install as a geforce4 last install i told the installer it was a geforce fx... but still when it came time to boot during the initialization it spit out a bunch of ASM looking stuff and stalled. i really need to get this box up and running i have tryed many distros on it all with the same resualt please someone give me some advice here... this is day 3

my last post was under linux>software

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=532376

if anyone is interested to see the history of it being narrowed down.

Have you tried a standard Slackware install and later install the 2.6.17.13 kernel, it's on Disk 2 extras directory. If you know how to configure xorgconfig to get the X server up and running it shouldn't be too difficult.
This is not a Slackware plug, but it seems to run most setups without too much trouble.
Later install the nVidia driver for your card.

Try "X -configure" Also "man X" And IMO write down the version of Open GL YOUR Distro is running. Backward compatability is a blessing. Chipsets aren't as friendly.
