Graphic Card that Supports displaying 8-bit and 24-bit images simultaneously
Can anyone tell me about some graphics card that supports displaying 8-bit and 24-bit images simultaneously irrespective of what color depth is currently selected.
I am using 'xwud' utility to display the images. I have ported the same code in Solaris and it works fine but in Linux it fails. I have been told that this is a hardware feature of multidepth framebuffering which most PC hardwares dont support.
This feature is different from Overlays feature.
If anyone know about such a Graphics card which supports this feature please let me know.
hmz.. i always thought that the max bitdepth allowed images
with bitdepths up to the max bitdepth to be displayed properly;
even those with lower bitdepths.. in gimp for instance i can
open 8bit images next to the 24bit images i have already opened..
but i guess that is not what you mean.
Yes in Gimp or ImageMagick you can open the images with different depth. After the check the visual information of that image using 'xwininfo'. The result will show that this is a 24-bit image and not an 8-bit image.
The application i working on requires that the image be displayed in it actual color depth. In Solaris (with Elite 3D graphich card) it works fine but in Linux (with NVidia GeForce2 MX/MX400) it does not.
