Graphic card not detected in SUSE 10
 

Hi everybody.....
I have a problem with starting SUSE 10.
Everything is going good with booting until I want to log in. Acctualy, the SUSE wont go in graphic mode. Something is wrong with grapic card. Last time I worked in SUSE, I set AGP to number (8, I think, before it was 0) for graphic card. Now the SUSE wont let me in graphic mode until I change error (probably with AGP). Because I am new in Linux, I dont know how to work in text mode.

What exactly did you change from 0 to 8 and where?

You should be able to force an error by typing "startx" and hitting enter. Once you know the error, it is downhill from there. "dmesg" may also give some error messages. Or cd into /var/log/xorg.0.log and it should have some errors. You just need to know what the errors are to fix them. We need to start there. The error is mostly likely in your \etc\X11\xorg.conf file, you may just need to set a proper resolution using generic drivers. Try searching around a little in the SuSE forum here, if that is the case.

First appears blue screen with window in a center of the screen with warrning:
-Faild to start up graphicall interface (X server).
-It's not set up correctly.

When I view the X server output it writes:
-(Warrning) Radeon: No matching device detection for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found
-(Error) Radeon(0): Illegal AGP mode: 8
-(Error) Screen found, but none have a usable configuration
-Fatal server error: no screens found

How can I change it back AGP mode from 8 to 0?
0 was when my Linux worked.

I repeat, I'm a new Linux user so I dont know the commands in text mode...
Help me.

Depends... What did you change? Which file did you modify?

In my yast, Monitor and display settings, I have settings for monitor(resolution) and options for display card. When I click on display options ,a new window appears with list of some things(I cant remmember what). One of that things from that list is AGP settings. By default it was 0, and then I change it to 8. After I reset my computer, there was an error.
I dont know if there was anything else with AGP, but I think it wasn't....

Well, luckily I would think you can find that setting somewhere in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. In command line you will have to edit via "edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf" as root. Then you will need to make changes, and use ctrl+o to write changes, then ctrl+x to exit back to command line and try again.

Ok. I found where I can change that AGP shit. Like you said /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and I change it, but ther is another problem. ctrl+o wont back me in command line. When I press it I just hear beep on my pc speaker and nothing happend.

p.s. how to shut down computer from text mode?? i tried to write "shutdown now", but computer only do something and then ask for root password

Oh... could be the default editior is different... Okay, instead try hitting escape then typing ":save" and "quit".
