graphic card


finally got linux running on my laptop (Acer travelmate 620). I m totally new to linux, but it seems a nice environment to be in.. however, y cant i set my lcd to display at 32bits? the max it can go is 24, y is this so? also, how can i find out what driver my distro is using? is it wise to 'update' the driver? if so, how can i go abt doing it? would really appreciate it if anyone can ansewr my questions...

You should ask the manufacturer why the card they designed and made can't use 32 bits and can only go up to 24 bits. From what I've seen though you won't notice too much a difference from 24 bits to 32, at least from what your eye sees. The only time I know most will use 32 bits is during games when there are more colors, etc.

i think u got me wrong. The graphic card does support 32bits under windows, thats y i'm asking this question. It is an intel i830, and i also asked regarding the updating of the driver cos i would like to know whether an update will solve the problem.
